Shannon Kelly, MEd

Shannon recently joined Xenium as one of our on-site Human Resource Representatives. She works onsite with one of Xenium’s clients, WW Group. WW Group is a manufacturing company employing approximately 170 regular and temporary employees and are located in Milwaukie, Oregon.

Shannon started her Human Resources career in 1993 at PayLess Drug stores. She worked as a trainer and employment specialist for over 33,000 employees in 11 different states. She spent a total of 13 years in the retail environment.  Shannon then stepped out of retail into the manufacturing industry. She was the sole Human Resources person supporting 300 employees at a vitamin manufacturer in the Hollywood District of Portland. After two years, the manufacturing plant was moved to the East Coast and she became the sole Human Resources person for a 120 employee non-profit school housing organization, Housing Northwest, Inc. Housing Northwest owns college housing facilities in Bend, Corvallis, and on the Portland State University campus. She was at Housing NW for 9 years.

After Housing Northwest, Inc. lost their contract, Shannon decided to return to school. She received her undergrad at the University of Oregon in Sociology in 1990. She earned her Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) credentials in 2006. She then earned her Masters of Education – School Counseling at Lewis & Clark College in 2009.

After Lewis & Clark, Shannon remained in Human Resources and worked as the sole Human Resources person at Open Meadow Alternative School. Open Meadow is a non-profit offering personalized educational experience for middle and high school youth. Open Meadow serves approximately 800 students in four different programs. After Open Meadow lost funding, Shannon found her way to Xenium. Through all of the twists and turns her path has taken, Shannon feels most passionate about the manufacturing environment. The WW Group on-site Human Resources Representative position was a perfect fit.

In Shannon’s off-time she enjoys volunteering. She is in the Big Brother Big Sister Program and has been with her little for 8 years. She also works with the Girl Scouts on their week long Day Camp. She volunteers with her therapy dog in the Tigard Library’s, “Dog Tales” Program.  Shannon works with a partner organization at PSU hosting International Students.  She has hosted at least 5 Japanese students over the past 4 years.

Shannon is also very involved in the dog world.  She owns three dogs, all Australian Shepherds. Her oldest, Bernie is 12, Clyde is 10, and Dash is 2.5. Bernie is a therapy dog, Clyde is a flyball dog, and Dash is a herding dog. Shannon’s flyball team, The X-Fidos, hosts annual tournaments where Shannon volunteers her time as Tournament Secretary. She is also one of two Australian Shepherd Rescue Representatives in the Portland area.
