On March 13, 2014, President Obama gave a directive to the Department of Labor suggesting The Fair Labor Standards Act be updated to reflect changes in our modern economy. In the directive, President Obama states, “…these regulations are outdated, millions of Americans lack the protections of overtime and even the right to the minimum wage.”

The directive then proposed the following:

  • Modernize and streamline the existing overtime regulations to update existing protections consistent with the intent of the Act
  • Address the changing nature of the workplace
  • Simplify the regulations to make them easier for both workers and businesses to understand and apply.

At this point in time, this is simply a directive and no changes have yet been made.  Xenium will closely monitor and release new information if any becomes available. Read the full Presidential Memorandum here.
