Most managers would likely agree that it is easy to get carried away in their own day-to-day tasks. This can ultimately mean they neglect the employees who work hard for them.
Zaina Ghabra, a contributor on the Refresh Leadership blog, shared insightful thoughts on ways to keep employees motivated and happy at work. Ghabra argues that even the tiniest gestures can go a long way in keeping employees satisfied at work and keep the manager-employee relationship strong.
One of the points Ghabra makes revolves around showing appreciation. Ghabra writes,

“Many employees feel under-appreciated at work, so let them know how much you appreciate them … This doesn’t mean you should go around praising every single person, but make it a point to give positive feedback when you notice a job well done. This is especially important for employees who are motivated by words of affirmation.”

As Ghabra states in the post, those who are motivated by words of affirmation may prefer to hear the positive feedback from management; for others, they may respond to quality time with the manager or perhaps by being the recipient of a small gift.
The overwhelming takeaway is that, as managers, we need to recognize and reward employees for a job well done.
What have you done lately to keep your employees energized and happy at work?
Editor note: It’s notable to mention that everyone reacts and likes to receive appreciation a little differently. For more on this, read The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace: Empowering Organizations by Encouraging People by Gary Chapman.
