Remote work – to encourage it, or not to encourage it? Plenty of large and small businesses have found that remote working, particularly when part time, offers the best of both worlds and creates happier, productive and more loyal employees. Some firms are even choosing to allow staff to spend time at the office to work with the team, then continue at home to get the work completed. For employers and employees, there can be huge benefits to staff working from home if managed effectively.
Research suggests that employees who work at home can be more productive than their office-based colleagues. In addition to productivity, there’s the financial benefit – large companies like American Express report annual savings of up to $15 million thanks to employees working from home. However, Yahoo is turning their back on remote working. Yahoo says that they want to encourage greater collaboration amongst staff and believe this isn’t possible with staff working remotely.
