As reported by Barran Liebman, a new law signed by Governor Kitzhaber requires that Oregon employers must provide employees who are veterans with time off on Veterans Day, as of April 4, 2013. This law is effective immediately, so prepare to process requests for time off on Veterans Day, November 11, 2013.

“In the latest effort to expand labor law rights, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled that simply asking an employee not to discuss ongoing internal investigation matters with co-workers until the investigation is concluded violated the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)…”
A legal update by Amy Angel, Paula Barran, and Valerie Berg of Barran Liebman, details that the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) attempted to institute a “new rule requiring most employers to post a Notice describing employee rights” but that such efforts have been hindered due to pending legal challenges. However it continues its efforts to inform workers of their rights.
