On September 17, the American Heart Association of Greater Portland and SW Washington hosted the annual Worksite Wellness Summit at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.
The Summit included a day-long schedule mixed with keynote speakers, breakout sessions and a panel discussion titled “Understanding Why: Discover why companies succeed and fail when addressing wellness,” which featured Cheryl McElroy of R&H Construction, Renae Coombs of SAIF, and Xenium HR’s own Marketing Manager, Brandon Laws.
The objective of the panel discussion was to share the positives and negatives of building company wellness programs. Each panelist shared from their experiences of working with leadership and a team to develop what their companies’ wellness programs are today. Ideas such as incentives, health benchmarks and goals, tools, resources and return on investment were common topics shared amongst the panel and with the 300+ HR & wellness leaders in attendance.
The primary take away from the discussion was that there is no single way to build, implement, launch and run a company wellness program. Each company has a slightly different approach and different tools and resources at their disposal. Furthermore, every company is different, and often times company wellness programs are built with the unique culture and values of that company in mind.
The Worksite Wellness Summit lasted the full day and included breakout sessions, small group discussions, talks from wellness program implementers and industry thought-leaders, and vendor presentations. Find out more about this event by visiting the website.
